Dating this mink(?) scarf

This scarf is fabulous, but I have no idea what era it is. Also hoping I'm correct in thinking it is mink. No labels. Any thoughts? Thanks:)

I have seen the plastic chain links on 1920's/30's purses, the threadwork fastening looks earlier though. How do those actually fasten?

It's really tough to determine the age of pelt wraps because the pelt does not have a design. Based on the way you have it secured it looks like it has an alligator closure under the chin, a plastic chain, and a magnetic snapping closure on the ends of the fabric balls.
My best guess based on the plastic chain would be that it might date to the 40s. The swirled rootbeer coloring of it reminds me of 40s bakelite, although just from a picture I am not sure if that is what it is or if it is another type of plastic.

Thank you! The furrier who cleaned this for me referred to it as a scarf, the term pelt wrap is much more accurate. The closures are just as you say, only the snaps on the fabric balls are just snaps, not magnetic. How would I determine if the chain is bakelite?

You can rub it vigorously, smell the plastic, and see if you can smell a formaldehyde scent which would smell similar to a chemistry lab or what frogs are preserved in. It's little though so you might only be able to smell it on your fingers or not smell it at all. You can also test with Simichrome polish or Autosol. Either one of these on a q-tip will cause a yellow result to appear when rubbing against the plastic if it is bakelite.

I can see some thinking of a scarf when thinking of this type of wrap. If I were offering I would probably offer it as Mink fur pelt collar wrap and maybe use the word scarf too just for those who might also use that word when searching.
