Dating unmarked animal brooch, and enamel or no?

I'm trying to date this little pin in the shape of a deer. I'm also thinking the brown details are enamel, as they look it to me but I know very little about jewelry. There are no marks that I can find. The textured back and animal theme have me guessing 60's? Thanks :)

Is the back very textured? The texturing doesn't show in your photo. The deer looks very much like Bambi to me. Could you show a closer view of the back? Are you asking if the root beer colored material is enamel? It looks like it is enamel from your photo. Based on the construction I think it's earlier than '60s but I'd like to see a close-up of the back. What is the size?

According to Wikipedia "Bambi was released in theaters in 1942, during
World War II, and was Disney's 5th full-length animated film. Bambi was re-released to theatres in 1947, 1957, 1966, 1975, 1982, and 1988. It was then made available on home video in 1989. .."

My guess on this would be '50s but I need to see the back.

Thanks, Linn. The back isn't highly textured, more like faintly dimpled. I was wondering if there was a Bambi connection. Yes, I was referring to the root beer colored material, glad to hear it looks like enamel. It measures 1.25" tall, and 1.25" from nose to tail:) Here is a close up of the back. Thanks again!

It does not look like the back is textured. It's not an absolute method of dating but usually a textured back indicates that a piece is from the late 1950s or newer. I have been trying to find your pin but so far I haven't had any luck! Perhaps someone will recognize it. One thought - have you looked on the pin stem with a loupe to see if there's a mark? There probably isn't but it's worth checking. It's nicely made. The enamel is fired enamel.

I think it's early-mid 1950s. .

The shape of the faces with animals and disney themed characters is quite a good indicator of age. While I'll leave the jewellery side to Linn the face and particularly the shape of the nose does look nice and early on this pin.

You all are the best. It's dawning on me that this may be solid gold, as it's heavy and there is no hint of a base metal in any of the numerous tiny nicks and scratches. Am I right in thinking I'm best off taking it to a jeweler to test for me? And will they be able to test the piece without damaging it? Thanks again, ladies!
