Dating Velvet Dressing Gown (or Opera Coat) and Fur ID

I found this black velvet coat at the thrift store. I actually think it's a dressing gown, but I'm not sure (mainly because I find it amazing that people would lounge in something this amazing haha). When buttoned at the neck, the two sides overlap. There are also two ties on the inside right side that I think tie to a loop on the left waist. There is also a hook on the collar and the remains of a thread loop. It has puffed sleeves and is lined in what feels like satin. It's floor length on me, and I am 5'5". There are no tags that I can find, and the seams underneath the lining are unfinished. I'm definitely wondering about a date and what type of fur is on the collar. Thanks for any insight!

Do opera coats typically overlap in the front this much instead of just buttoning straight down?

I was so excited to find it. I definitely pounced on it as soon as I saw it. It's in amazing condition for having been at the thrift store!
