A brand I follow recently made something out of this “deadstock” fabric and I’m a bit curious about it. They said it’s silk but everything I have found similar is made of polyester. Also, what would a maker possibly use this fabric for? I can’t imagine making a suit jacket out of this. Am I correct that this is monkcloth, 4x4 weave? Thanks in advance!
It is a little hard to tell (not because of the photos but because I cannot feel the cloth for myself). But in the first photo at least, it looks like something you would use to make a tote bag (probably very cheaply, like for a party favor). I’m not a fashion conservator yet, but that’s what it looks like to me. Hope this helps!
It could also be a woven polyester-silk blend. I have a 60s dress that is a polyester-silk blend. If that’s the case, it looks like it could be used for a cloth placemat.
