I see these terms used but I have no clue what they mean.

Avant Garde?? - I looked it up on wikipedia. Means "advance guard" or "vanguard". The adjective form is used in English, to refer to people or works that are experimental or innovative, particularly with respect to art, culture, and politics. Is this term like MOD and most people use it wrong??

Demi Parure?? - No clue here.

Thanks for your help!!

Vickie, a demi-parure is part (demi) of a full set of matching jewelry, which is called a parure. A parure, as I understand modern usage, is at least 3 pieces--e.g., necklace, earrings, and brooch, or necklace, bracelet, and ring, etc. So a demi is a minimum of 2 pieces.

Avant garde is a really overused term this days. When I was younger, as pertains to fashion, it meant "far out" of the ordinary or mainstream, or ahead (way ahead) of its time, or fashion that the artsy or theater set might wear. It's not a true style of anything. What was considered avant garde, say, in the 60s might be looked at as old hat today. In the 60s, space-age fashions were avant garde. Some hippie looks may have been considered avant garde. Or stuff by Rudi Gernreich. We thought in our day that the early YSL pantsuits were avant garde.

Hope this helps!
