America is stunned when it learns that Margaret Mitchell, author of <u>Gone with the Wind</u>, has been struck by a car on August 11. She dies 5 days later.

After General Electric chemists create a rubbery substance with no apparent use, a creative advertiser named Peter Hodgson figures out a way to market the stuff. He packages "Silly Putty" in plastic eggs and will sell 30 million of them over the next 5 years!

On October 19, the New York Yankees, led by Casey Stengel, win baseball's World Series in five games.

Broderick Crawford's starred in "All the King's Men" playing a senator modeled after the infamous Huey Long .

TV shows premiering in 1949 were Captain Video and his Video Rangers, The Lone Ranger, The Goldbergs and Quiz Kids.

I love Oreos and I miss them as they don't sell them overhere :(
I keep telling Gary about them and he just doesn't get it as he's never had one!

Oooh...you have to also try Newman-O's. I was addicted to Oreos, but i replaced them with Newman O's and i am even more addicated to those with the reasoning that they don't have any trans fats/hydrogenated oils and have some organic ingredients.

Hmm...Captain Video and the Video rangers. I have never heard of that one. That seems like such a more "current" name (well maybe 80s or so) rather than something in the 40s.
