Diffraction Grating Jewelry

I believe the diffraction grating jewelry came out in the 1960's. It looked like a mini version of the compact discs of today in the rainbow colors. I have looked on ebay, and the general internet, and rarely ever find the jewelry for sale. I also look for the weird eyeball jewelry that had people a bit freaked out, but I loved it.

I think that "hunting things down" is part of the appeal, especially when we knew they existed, but they remain somewhat evasive. Do any of you remember the diffraction jewelry ? It was mainly in necklace, and pin form. I can still find mustard seed jewelry from way back, but sometimes the "newer" vintage is harder to locate.

Do you have a picture of the diffraction grating jewelry? Is that like the "flicker" pins that would change image when you looked from a different direction?

I have a pair of vintage disc clip-on earrings that I think are what you're talking about--they look like a CD when you turn them in the light--with the differing colors. I couldn't place whether they are 60s or 70s.

I also have a few pieces of the seeds or pebbles-in-water jewelry. Where you have a clear glass globe or teardrop, or other shape, and small granules of what look like either seeds or pebbles or glass bits. Then the globe is filled with water, and the bits sort of float around in it? Does anyone remember this stuff?

Oh Yes

Now I do recall the floating bits ! They are similar to those Batons filled with glitter. I wish I could see those again in jewelry. When I get a memory in my head, I just have to chase it down. I am still hunting for the expanding bracelets with the heart shaped glass gem. They came in a matching set, and they were everywhere. Little girl jewelry. One type had a fine chain with pearls at intervals. They were everywhere, and then they just vanish.

I will see what I can do to get a photo of the diffraction jewelry I have. I may hunt up a mood ring. And one of my favorite rings was a "poison" ring with a little compartment that opened. Of course, I lost it.

I loved those poison rings, but I'm sure they're long gone. I actually think I still have a mood ring--I'd love to start wearing it again if I can find it! I'd like to see your diffraction jewelry to see if my earrings are that. I can't specifically recall it... If I get a chance to shoot those earrings, I'll post them, too.

Diffraction Grating Jewelry--are these that?

Here are the earrings I have that look like a modern-day CD, with rainbow colors changing as they are turned in the light. The discs are plastic and are backed by what looks like a resin material.

Are these diffraction grating construction?

Speaking of poison rings....check out the size of this one I sold last month.....HUGE! It could have "poisoned" a whole neighborhood.
