"A £100,000 hoard of vintage clothing has been discovered in dusty old house after the death of a real-life Miss Havisham."

"The collection will be sold at an event at Vervia’s house in Houghton le Spring, County Durham, on 7 December. North News, Richmond House, Old Brewery Court, 156 Sandyford Road, Newca"

According to that article, they've done all the cleaning and mending already too!
I think Louise is the closest, at 2hrs 20mins away, me next at 2hrs 40...shame it takes 2 hrs alone to get to Manchester, we could have made it a road trip! They don't mention any details as to how items will be sold - do you think those stickers are priced?

Problem is, they might be thinking Polly Peck is a 'designer' dress!

I thought the same Jonathan. Still, what an amazing find, and I'm sure there must be some
couture/designer items in the lot. I LOVE stories like this!

What an amazing sale that will be--hope someone here can go and "report in" afterwards! :)

It is odd that the items shown are not as "exclusive" as the headline leads one to anticipate--I would think they'd want to showcase any designer or couture p ieces to generate as much excitement for the sale as possible... My hunch is the journalists responsible for the story don't quite get what those terms mean...

UK folks: What sort of museum is the Beamish Museum? The story says the rarest pieces will go there; is it the type of institution one can imagine as the logical home for important vintage fashion?

If they were all new and unworn why did they have to be mended? If they were in their original packages/boxes why did they need to be cleaned? I know things get smelly and dusty from long time storage, but often airing is all that is needed.

Good question. I have a feeling the writer got carried away a bit. Many may be unworn, but she had to wear something everyday, didn't she? And I do wonder about the use of couture and designer. I did see some nice pieces in the photos, but nothing that looks like she went to Paris and bought expensive clothing every year. If the dealer has spent a year on this, even off and on, I sure hope she has been paid in advance in some way! I sure wouldn't want to do all that work on contract on the chance of what it will bring at auction.
