when i am on my travels around the place......looking for items of interest.......if i am in a charity shop......sometimes there are items which still have thier tags on, and are a few years old.....maybe just gone out of fashion.......i sometimes buy these.........not to sell now....as no one wants them as they are so last season.........

but i am putting them by.....as these are the future vintage collectables.......

and hopefully as they still have their tags left on and un-worn....will attract more interest.........

do anyone else do this ? .........

i do new and used items.....which have just gone or going out of fashion........but i have only recently started doing this.......

i have noticed this week.... that the charity shops are now putting their 'evening' wear down in price.....to try and catch the christmas party go'ers ....

i must admit i am lucky at the moment for space...... as my mam has got a fashion shop.... which has a huge basement..... still with the racking etc.... from the previous owners......so i can store there as well as my house......

that's where most of the shoes i bought are being stored........plus if i buy summer clothes in the middle of winter... or vice versa..... i store them there until the appropriate season.......

i picked up a few jaeger items today...... which were on the reduced rail.......

i was also going to ask.....is there a subscribers magazine or association etc... for vintage clothing accessories etc.....

as even though i was collecting clothes years ago.....i am quite a novice.......and need to pick up a few tips......and dont want to be a pain on the forum by asking what will prop seem silly questions......

I have a question for you! If you have say bought a new item very cheeply,

What I am thinking is:- if it worth £40.00 in say 10 years time , it could be worth £80.00 in 20 years you just do not know, and it would be worth hanging on to, or in 20 years from now it might be worth only £20

How will you decide when the right time to sell ?.

This is where the crystal ball would come in handy. I don't come across name brands so the things I find would have to be indicative of a clothing movement or average style...like 80s stovepipe jeans, slouch sweaters and the like.
The question isn't so much when do you bring it out as it is how long can you safely store it without it coming into damage or driving your co-habitants insane? If I could think of what would be as cool a find to me in the future as a 50s day dress or tulle prom dress is today, I'd sack it away for that long.

One observation, though....when I find the best finds from my eras of choice (40s to 60s) it is most oft a "depression baby" as we may call them, or someone who lived their younger years in that time of going without and making do. They then get the mindset to overpurchase when they have money, so they don't have to wear a dress to the point of rags, they can go to the stash and bring out that dress that may not be in style, but is new and crisp.
So, am I setting myself up to be seen as a crazy lady, should I not be the lucky seller of these hoarded items?
Will I be the vintage version of the cat lady!?
:BAGUSE: meow.

hi...paul...........the thing is you just dont know.........

but my way of thinking.......fashion goes in circles.....and will came back round.....

.examples.......

leopard/animal print was very big in the 70's its back in now.....same as tartan.....late 70's punk era.....back in now......

80's leg warmers......starting to get trendy....now...sold some this week on ebay......ok.... not loads of money....but....i can remember wearing these.....when they were the hottest thing in fashion....and then all of a sudden.....every one was cringing..when they said that they had a pair..
the 70's style poncho was the in thing about 2 years ago.....

and designers.......i should imagine that fashion works in the same way as any other antiques... like carlton ware...... a few years ago..... was hugely collectable..... and would bring terriffic prices...... now its calmed down..... ok still collectable.... but now its another name thats the must have........

when i buy things to store i do not pay more than a few pounds for it......maybe i am lucky with my charity shops that i go to......and auctions etc......or maybe i am just collecting a load of clothes that will never be worth anything..... who knows......nobody really know... as i read somewhere on this forum.....a bit of advice given was ..follow your gut instinct.....

and for me...i really love the seeking out ..and looking.... and finding items...........my best buy was a christian dior diorling 60's dress for £2.95.... bu8t hat that will prob....be the first and last time that happens.....

Legwarmers?! Thud.

I got like 8 pairs one year for Xmas from the extended family, you know, aunts and uncs that don't know you well? The ones that would give me earrings although I've not had more than a nose piercing in my life.
Wow, wouldn't mind having back the warmers or the earrings......hmmm

I'd also like to know if there is any good magazines on vintage clothing- or is the subject to specialized?

I have no idea what the '00 vintage will be, but would guess it's not going to be any of the mass produced stuff you can buy out of high street stores here. Really agree about the looking for things...one of the best things about vintage clothing for me is finding the perfect 60's mod dress for £3 in your local charity shop. Or whatever it happens to be!

Dior for 2.95! What a bargain.

this is the christian dior dress...... that i sold on ebay in the end.......

hope the link thing works..... still not confident on doing it yet.....where's my 10 year old son when i need help with the computer !!!!!

OK....didnt work..... but this is the ebay no....
