Do I or Don\'t I????

I am trying to make up my mind about whether to Feature this VLV dress or not. It is a full circle dress with velvet flocking and a velvet bodice with small prong set rhinestones.

I originally bought this at an antique store and have alot of money invested when you include the purchase price, previous listings on ebay with a comfortable reserve, relists with high starting bid, ect. I am toying with the idea of starting it with a low starting bid, no reserve, and springing for Featured Plus....but I risk losing even more money that way. I even had it in my Mall store for quite a while at what I thought was a reasonable price, but it never sold.:sniff:

What would you do???

I know the time is right again for VLV listings.....and just not sure how to proceed. Thanks for any advise.....

Gail

I don't have any advice, but I would like to say it's STUNNING and I'm surprised it hasn't sold.

Good luck.

Feature has helped me sometimes, and not others. A low open with no reserve will attract bidders, but you are right, it is risky and can lead to a lot of nail biting by the last day of the auction. However, if this is VLV primo shopping time, it may well be worth the feature and risk. As to not selling on the mall - I had a lot of great things that sat on the mall, and when I listed them on ebay, I got a higher price than what I wanted on the mall.

I would vote for feature - but then put a lot of other things up that have BINs or fixed prices that people can snap up when they are checking your other auctions.

I am not sure on price...I might be tempted to put it up with a higher opening bid that you are comfortable with and no reserve... i think gals want to have the impression that they could possibly win it as there are probably a lot of dresses that are starting to go up for VLV consideration. But maybe wait for more sage opinions.

Gail, it's stunning & one would think you could certainly recoup your cost for feature listing! Re: low opening bids with reserve pricing--this may defy conventional wisdom, but what I've done in the past is used a low opening price w/reserve, but in the description I state what my reserve is. The low opener attracts attention, but if my reserve is too high for some folks, then they don't waste their time (or mine) bidding. And I explain in the listing my reasoning. Now, it doesn't always work, but two of the highest-closing-price auctions I've ever had on eBay have utilized that method. And on all but one auction that I've done that on, I've gotten way more than my reserve.... Typically the few times I've put a reserve on something without saying what it is, I've not sold the item or it's sold at, or a little above, reserver. I think eBay bidders really shy away from reserves more than ever these days! Just a thought & my own personal observation!

That's interesting Anne! I wouldn't have even thought of such a scheme.

Mia, VLV is Viva Las Vegas, a huge 50s shindig held every year about Easter in Las Vegas. Here is their official web site. The clothing that might be snapped up by VLV revelers is calculated by us to go up for sale 'round about January through mid-March. It can be quite a lucrative time!

Gail, I see you have a bid, so :clapping: ! I would list as many VLV-ish things as possible while that one is up. If not VLV, then just anything, as you are sure to get hits on all of your listings.

Gail it is gorgeous and I think your timing's great on this one! As long as you are listing something else to go with your featured item it's good use of the extra attention. I can never seem to keep up the momentum so you're doing better than me to have anything else ready to go with it! :)

Someone is going to be delighted with that - I would pay a lot for it and hope they do too.. ;)

6 days to go and you already have a bid!

Go Gail! That's a very good sign. It will be going home with someone for sure now, but i can just bet it will go a lot higher :)

It's a lovely dress and I hope it gets the attention it deserves. However, although in style it's appropriate for VLV, the velvet is too seasonal for April in Las Vegas. I have two similar dresses in my inventory right now that I never managed to get up for the holidays --- maybe I should dig them off the rack if yours goes well.

Well, April in Vegas can be chilly enough for this dress! I was there a few years ago on the cusp of March & April, and froze my butt off on the golf course--in jacket, hat, and gloves! If I were heading to Vegas for VLV and this dress caught my fancy, I'd buy it to wear there in a heartbeat--velvet or not!
