Because whoever she was, she by chance foresaw the 2004 Autumn/Winter trends to a T.

But what about the original date? First guess 60s, but willing to be corrected; the label looks quite archaic:

I think a manmade fibre chiffon, with a dull satin (or is that not satin? ) lining on the body.
Some serging, but mostly neatly double-stitched seams.

Help!

Very Boho princess look....I would go with 60s, although the
label does look a bit earlier.

Killer green!

Oh, yees I see what you mean about Emma's ruffles now (although of course my BBC2 teatime childhood saturation has left all of these outfits embedded somewhere in the brain).
Maybe it was some established garment house instructed to produce something 'up-to-the-minute', so they got their wild colour, slightly risque pattern, and made it up ever-so-carefully for their genteel customers...

It's funny, though it's marked a 38, its on my 36x 26 form here with no pinning and it looks alright don't you think? Although with that waist it's cinched in to the max. I think the wrap makes it a little flexible, and we would tolerate a more, er, 'loose' wearing of it, right?

Unfortunately I 'invested' in this one (I just couldn't leave it there!) so it has to go with a relatively high price tag/reserve.
Knocks this year's Top Shop efforts for six though don't it?

I've 'malled' it for the time being as a place-holder, but I have a pink chiffon ruffled dress of about the same time that I'd quite like to auction it alongside.

Wasn't the Castle De'ath (still love that name!) one of the most ruffle-heavy episodes, or was it just that she wore a nightie through most of it..?
;)
