Do you recognise this 50's print fabric? - found!

It's from a dress & matching bolero on which the previous owner very kindly pinned the date ; 1954 perhaps they wore it to a wedding.
I feel I have seen this fabric before *somewhere* perhaps in another colourway, it's such a bold design I can't help but feel a good designer was involved. I looked all the way through my Horrockses' book and it doesn't appear to be one of theirs though the design of the dress is certainly within their range. Do you recognise it?

That is simply stunning! It does not "need" a designer name to be desirable and fantastic in its own right. (I think we all get hung up sometimes on "trying" to put a piece with a designer--needlessly.) Both the fabric and the style of the outfit are superb!

Thank you Anne. I don't normally look for a name when a garment has no labels, it was just that this print stood out so much for me. I believe it's home-made. Luckily, it's a perfect fit :D I just have to hem the skirt.

Just to be clear here, I was looking for the designer / artist of the fabric design, not the garment.

I'm sure you already know this, I have found on bolts of dead stock fabrics that the info (if any) is usually in the selvage- company or mill name, name of pattern and designer (if any) and details about the fabric like "a so and so vat dyed guaranteed colorfast" and so on (and in pretty and fancy scripts sometimes). Sometimes, especially in the case of home sewn clothing, the seamstress cuts to the edge and some or all of the info is still there. So maybe look under the seam allowance or hem. It does look familiar. And SCORE on finding a great piece that fits too! Represent! Jennifer

Yeah I've had a good look. All edges of the skirt were cut, it's been shortened & the bodice & bolero are both lined so I can't see any raw edges. So no luck there.

It's so, so lovely! Looks kind of like a 40's pattern with a 50s-ish color scheme on a 50's dress. More so on the close-up pic though. Does anyone else see this, or am I imagining things?

It's funny you should say that Villa...:drinking2:
I've come back to this after a long time because I was just browsing and came across this Horrockses advert for furnishing fabrics from 1946/7: I think that's my dress fabric! Very usefully, they've even placed it just next to a lady so we can compare the scale - a furnishing fabric would explain the outsize print - can you imagine having a lounge decorated in it though?!
I was also amused to see somebody thought of red soled shoes before Louboutin... :D
