I am trying to clean out and get organized. I have got a HUGE pile of fashion magazines that I have saved over the past few years. They are taking over my room!

I thought I would save them cause they might be valuable one day. However, I won't have a place to sit down soon.

So, does anyone have any suggestions? Just thought about keeping the March and September issues of each. That is when they have the Fall and Springs big previews.

Maybe if we should start brainstorming on what makes certain vintage magazines sought after and some not. There were a ton of magazines made, but not all of them really command big bucks. Maybe the ones that have a particular famous person in them (but who will really stand out to people 20-50 years from now right?). Beauty and hair tips in 40s/50s magazines tend to be a selling point, as do articles that are in depth about designers. will have to think on this. Some its more the ads

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to keep the ones with celibrities on the cover or something like that.

I don't really know though, I am not a fashion magazine hoarder so i really can't speak from experience. maybe the fall/spring idea of your original thought was better.

:bouncy:

Anyone else got ideas?

Yes, I hope so. I get about four a month, so count that up!:o

i am terrible and have to stop keeping things. i used to collect iD and 'the face' when i was younger and ended up selling them off as job lots as i never actually looked at them. i find the only thing i look at now are wartime womens weeklies, 1950's catalogues etc. so i can't afford to hang onto the newer ones as space is at a premium. i think yes, celebrities doing modelling shoots, and any designer interviews are probably always going to be of interest.
but like you say, you need a crystal ball really to be able to tell which ones will be desirable in years to come for those reasons. more sensible to just keep hold of the ones that have the new collections and seasons previews (they are the only things i keep, and tend to be in a smaller ( ) seperate supplement too.

so i'm no help really, sorry!

Bottom line is Linda, this is not a good place to get input about what to get rid of. What to buy maybe LOL. but parting ways is not something that is done well here ha ha ha

I guess not.

I do save all my old ones (50s, 60s, etc), so here's to chucking all the others ones except the fashion previews ones.

Thanks, guys! Now I have a place to sit down.:P

Whew! I thought I was the only one being smothered under a pile of magazines!

.... we all have a disease, I tell ya :USING:

I have three separate stacks.

The fashion mags.
The food & wine mags (consumer and industry).
The science & tech mags.

I tend to keep some of the major fashion ones, like Bergdorf's, Vogue, New York, and WWD Acessories spring & fall issues, and any international ones I happen to pick up. The Elle, Bazar, and Lucky go out after 6 months.

BUT, it's the food & wine ones that end up on the special shelf. Saveur, Wine Spectator, Food Arts, La Cucina Italiana, local wine shop catalogues, and Gastronmica aren't going anywhere.

The science & tech go out much faster these days. They update too quickly.

I donate my used mags to the guys who sell books on the streets. I can buy lots of vintage mags anytime, anyway, as they are constantly getting recycled here by street vendors.

If there is something special in one, like I was just reading my May Vogue that has an article on Chanel, then I will keep it. I just need to remember to put a note on the front. :(
