do you think clothes of today will stand the test of time, and make it through to be the next vintage items ?

why i am asking..... as now i am more hands on with clothing of various ages...since the 90's lot of clothes production has gone overseas.... and there are more cheaper value clothes on the market... supermarkets etc...

i have noticed once they are worn and washed a few times that the shape goes... the stitching on the seams seems to losen quickly etc.....

also i have noticed this on the upper branded high street clothes.....

even my mam has noticed has she has a fashion boutique for the older trendier lady.... after ordering her stock at the fashion shows, when they arrive,, some times she has to send them back as the quality wasnt there for them to last..

i was going to buy some of the kate moss range... to keep for future collections.. but to be honest i didnt think much of the quality.....you would be just paying for the name ....

Unfortunately I agree with your assessment. However I do not buy a lot of new items, so I may not be in a position to judge.

I think the quality of today's clothing is terrible. I wear a t-shirt three times and the seams come unraveled and the color fades. It's frustrating. But we live in a throwaway society, and since clothing is now mass produced overseas by underpaid workers, we can just replace whatever wears out.

Okay - vent over!

I would definitely agree for the most part that newer clothes will have difficulty standing the test of time. Even cheap clothing up until the 60s had a pretty good standard when it came to the type of fabric used and the sewing of the garment.

I think that now there are still a few designers and manufacturers who are using better fabrics...the sewing is another thing....cheaper labor, who knows how quickly things will fall apart.

I too don't purchase too much new except for tank tops, some skirts, shoes, undergarments so I am not the best to judge, but because I always look at clothing the differences between the old and the new definitely show up.

glad its not me that has noticed.......i dont buy a lot of new clothes.. for myself..... but sometimes i will buy something designer if its in a mega sale... and store it for a few years.....lol...

i have noticed the poor quality of modern made clothes in charity shops etc... as the older items stand out by a mile.. with quality......

Nope! I'd save your money and buy quality older pieces which will always be in demand. Of course, there is nothing wrong with saving sentimental items of clothing from our times (I've got a few things tucked away from the 20's that relate to happy memories) but other than that, I'm not saving anything from these times.
