I have a Dobbs 'Golden Coach' fedora. Canadian Beaver. It has this crest on the side - original to hat. does it have any signifigance? or is it just decoration. (Picture is quick & dirty!)

I had read that Dobbs did do custom orders, so wondered if this was a specific crest or not.

Yes, it is green!

My googleizing has failed me. :nana:

It does seem to follow the rules of a heraldic shield, but I expect identifying it would be a job for an expert in that field. Perhaps there are website forums that can help.

I'm not sure if this will be much help to you, but the Y-shaped division is called a pall. On the left is a rose, on the right a fleur de lis. I think the animal at the top is a lioness, or maybe a lion or cat, in the position (attitude) known as statant, and the white with black marks represents ermine fur. But I tried googling 'shield pall rose fleur lioness statant ermine' and variations on that, and didn't find it.

Gold~ THANK-YOU. Yes, it does help.

I did find a heraldry site, but didn't find the 'pall' division shape. I did find the 'ermine fur' reference, but didn't connect it with my crest. duh!

I had tried googling crowned lion(I think it might be a leopard tho') rose fleur de lis, found zip!

I have a vague memory that in heraldry lion and leopard are interchangable terms. I thought it might be a lioness because it doesn't seem to have a mane. BTW, this is a shield, rather than a whole crest (a shield is part of a crest, but a crest has more stuff around, on top and beneath the shield).

Shield it shall be!

Thx. again Gold~ this will help in my description.

I'll see what I can find using lioness instead of leopard.
