Does anyone know anything about Kay O' Kauai & this dress?

There are no other labels in this dress, and I'm having trouble finding anything about the label. Can anyone tell me anything about this? I thought I read something about this once in the forum, but I can't find it now. Thanks :)

‎Here is a little bit of information for you...

(1969) Also on Rice Street are the shops of designer Guadalupe and Kay O'Kauai, Hawaiian-wear manufacturer who also makes outfits to order.

(2002) Katherine "Kay" Hazard passed away in Arizona on Dec. 3, 2002 at the age of 78.
Born in Redondo Beach, California on April 12, 1924. She spent a large part of her life on Kauai 1962 to 1987. She owned the local resort shop business called Kay O' Kauai.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger W. Hazard. She is survived by her children: Melodie Beamer, Cheryl Konn, Richard Mullins & Larry Mullins, 8 grandchildren.

...and from a 1967 article: "...Kay and Roger Hazard, formerly of San Clemente...Weary of the proverbial rat race, they decided not to return to it after vacationing here five years ago. They sold their home, he resigned his job, and they settled here, alert to fill a need. The "need" turned out to be a shirt/muumuu factory, now known as "Kay O' Kauai" with outlet shops at the Poipu Beach and Coco Palms hotels. Kay, a slim, tiny creature who always liked sewing but had never done it (or anything) for money, now finds herself supervising 25 island lady sewers. Five sew in the factory...The rest of the ladies do piecemeal sewing in their homes on their own time. Obviously, no two of Kay's creations are the same!"

Wow! Thank you for the information! That is very helpful! Would you assume this dress is from the 70's then?

My gut feeling is the 70's, but that is just a wild guess, as I am not versed in when care labels of that sort were added to garments, and that muumuu(?) doesn't provide enough design clues for me. VFG member Linn, who lives in Hawaii, is likely better able to tell you more about it.

A sleeveless muumuu! I didn't view it that way at all, but that makes sense with the information you found.

Looking at the mu`umu`u (had to look up where the diacritical marks go) my first thought because of the colors was late '60's but the care label most likely dates it to the early 1970's. My mother moved to Kauai in 1970 and it reminds me of something she would have worn then. I don't remember her mentioning Kay O` Kauai but she did buy dresses from Guadalupe who is mentioned in the article that Lynne found. My mother lived up the road from the Coco Palms Hotel (where Kay had a shop). The hotel was destroyed by Hurricane Iniki in 1992 and is just now being rebuilt. I am pretty sure that part of Elvis Presley's "Blue Hawaii" was filmed there. I got one of my cats, Coco there, too.

Here's more about Coco Palms:

It's a very nice find.

The article was found HERE -- and the small excerpt I posted was for educational purposes only, please. That is, it should not be quoted to sell an item. I have an annual subscription to the archives of the paper, but you can pay to view a single article.

Thanks for your help!
No, I have no dresses to sell. Kay was my grandmother and I've just been collecting news articles and such in her memory :)
