Does anyone know label Odette - Palma de Mallorca Spain?

I purchased this 4-piece set from a woman whose mother (she said) bought and used it when she lived in Spain in the 1950s. The set is great quality, with all the beading hand sewn and fine wool, suede and silk materials used.

I can't find much of anything about the label. Just a few other items offered for sale, with the beading being a commonality. Palma de Mallorca is a port city on the island of Mallorca. Does anyone have any information?

Maggie, I found one item so far, from a 1966 guide to Europe: "High-fashion ladies' accessories? Odette (Edificio de Espana Building), the French designer whose success is so spectacular in Mallorca and the Canary Islands, was the first to combine Manacor pearls and sequins with blouses, sweaters, and other wearables, way back when--and her whole line reflects Madame Odette's fertile brain and imaginative style sense..." (and that is all I can see there).

I can see the design of the accessories is 1950s style but can't help thinking the font and type of embroidery used on the label looks much later (late 70s-80s) Maggie. Are there any other labels? inside the gloves perhaps.

I agree that the font looks more recent. I wonder if the company existed into the 70s-80s?

A few more detail shots.

This is the only label in the glove:

Lynne...no idea of the start and end date for Odette by any chance? The items I see online labeled Odette look to be 1950s or 1960s.

Maggie,

That is a wonderful set. Since the shawl, gloves and even the handbag have a timeless style, I might suggest dating it by the hat. The hat looks early 1950s. Possibly late 1940s, as the French were several years ahead of things when it came to millinery (well..pretty much everything). But I see more early 50s in the hat and the shawl also has a 1950s feel to it. The bag looks late 40s, but early 50s too.

Really a great find. So nice that they all stayed together.

Maggie,

I went through every online resource I have and the earliest reference I found to Odette in Majorca was in 1955 and the latest was in 1970. Of course, there is a great probability she was working there before and after those dates, but without her last name (I couldn't find any), I can't find more information.

Thank you Barbara, I appreciate your thoughts on the date very much!

And Lynne, thank you for finding this info...it helps so much to know that there is not more to be readily discovered about Odette and what in fact there is to be known.

I also recalled that there was a Milliner named Odette, in Paris in the WWI and 1920s and 30s time period. I have a photo postcard of her somewhere in my file cabinet and 1 in my digital files as well. Doubtful it is the same woman, but it is fun to wonder.
