Kimberly please upload some closer (and most importantly in focus) pictures so that we can make an educated guess at it were. Have you looked at the fur resource? (link on the home page).

I did check the fur resource guide. I didn't see anything that looked like this. The closest was mink but mink looks just slightly different. I can take some closer pics.

Thanks MaryAlice, the jacket is 70s but I thought rabbit fur was mostly white?

Pinkcoke is right, Rabbit can be almost any color.

From the VFG fur resource rabbit entry:

The look and feel of this fur is sleek, flat, and soft, varying from white to black with every permutation in between. Rabbit furs are often dyed or marked to resemble other furs.

In fact if you click through the photos, number 9 looks very similar to your fur coat in style and color.

okay, so I'll go with rabbit. That one pic from the link does look somewhat similar. Does this pic *not* look in focus to everyone? I personally thought it was pretty clear.......

Thanks so much for everyone's help. I really appreciate it!

Hi, Kimberly I wasn't suggesting that your pictures are out of focus, just that if you supply any close ups or macro shots, they need to be ;).

Body looks like rabbit. Collar looks like fox.

Rabbit fur is not "thick and deep." You can't dig your fingers into it and there's no cushy-soft underlayer. It's silky soft, but sort of "all the same from top to bottom." Fox fur has long hairs and a thick undercoat. You can dig your fingers in.

Uncle was a furrier.
