does anyone watch \"what not to wear\"?

We don't get cable, so I don't watch the show. But they were here in Seattle recently. According to them we are
<a href="http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/228144_whatnot11.html?searchpagefrom=1&searchdiff=4">casual to a fault</a>

Well there's a reason we dress the way we do. It is damp and cold here much of the time. And we don't let the inclement weather keep us indoors. We walk alot. We dress for practicality and comfort.

Years ago, I had an office job in downtown Seattle. I walked to it from the ferry dock - up some very steep hills. The lunch hour was also used for walking. Down (steep hills) to the market or maybe window shopping at the department store. And I wasn't the only one doing it. It seemed like everyone spilled out of the office building a lunch time to do their various errands. I wore my walking shoes, and then changed into pumps at the office. It's very common to do that here.

I've always thought that fashion was a regional thing. And so I don't think it is appropriate to criticize a regions fashion choices, especially if you've never lived the lifestyle.

I think the hosts of that show are always a little too harsh. I guess that's what sells these days.

But I must say that they do some good makeovers. I'd volunteer to go on the show myself if they were sometimes so mean-spirited!

I have seen the show, unless i am confusing it with some other similar shows.

there are truly people out there who didn't have a "big sister" or older brother feowing up to teach them or they didn't otherwise learn some basic grooming techniques, and there are some people that don't have a lot of self esteem and can't recognize the positive features about themselves or do and just don't know what to do with it. For those people, a makeover to teach them simple things they can do is quite helpful. And people are just not too aware sometimes of how they come acrossed to other people (like if you are trying to get a more professional job, a few simple things can make you look more the part). Or they are afraid to make a change.

But a lot of times they don't honor the person's overall personality or they try to fix them instead of enhance them. And that's what i don't like. If a guy is the type who likes to be very clean cut, don't try to convince them to do the "shirt tucked out on three sides, tucked in on one" thing and tell them that stubble is hot. They just won't be comfortable. It will feel like a costume. Now the biker dudes that get the hair cuts...that usually makes them look 10-20 years younger doing that so that is generally a good thing, but for goodness sake, incorporate some serious hardware into their belts when doing the clean cut look or let them keep their boots.

Hmmm....but on second thought maybe i need to get a hipster makeover so I can use pictures of myself in my shop sell ringer T's for $1,000 each.

People here in Ottawa also wear sneakers (& socks) with skirts & dresses, so they can walk to the office, and then change into pumps. Luckily we don't have any steep hills!

In Chicago it's all strappy sandles now. But of course our feet see air only 3 months out of the year. Otherwise it's boots and wool socks and a whole nother outfit rooled up in the backpack.

Its very diverse here. I don't think there is a real trend. We have a lot of either "help, i am stuck in 1979 (and not in a good way, because there is a good way)" or the "golf course" chicness look. Overall, everyone is very casual.

Here in London everyone is wearing streetwear, hoods and tracksuits. Personally I don't like the look but was outragedwhen a shopping mall banned hoods on the grounds that the wearers might be criminals. Our local shopping mall thankfully refused to follow the ban as the manager pointed out that cancer sufferers liked to cover their heads and he didn't want them to be uncomfortable. We have a pair of make over women, Trinny and Susannah but I call them Trinny and Tranny. They are awful, having said that I break loads of fashion rules and rather enjoy doing it lol
