Thanks so much for posting this! Love the third look - it's so perfect!
These are Gene dolls indeed, and some of them have been made over very beautifully too - faces repainted and hair restyled. Of all the 16" dolls in my collection, Gene and her friends make up the biggest part now. She was the original 16" fashion doll for collectors who like to "play" with their dolls :). They were never made to be kept in boxes, but to be de-boxed, redressed etc. Just what I like! I never liked the idea of keeping dolls in their boxes :hysterical:. I was fascinated by her from the beginning - not least because of her vintage style fashions. I loved the 40s look even then, and that appealed to me a great deal. I was able to attend Gene's farewell convention in Philadelphia two years ago, and that was one fabulous event.

Vogue started producing sewing patterns for Gene soon after she appeared, and the interesting fact is, that for at least some of them, they drew from their own archives! I have these two patterns in my collection:

And... I have found the original pattern too on the pattern wiki: http://vintagepatterns.wikia.com/wiki/Vogue_S-4765.

Also, a lot of designer styles of the time have been copied for Gene - meaning the official outfits for sale for her by Ashton Drake or Integrity. There's more than one Dior outfit of the late 40s/early 50s that got the Gene treatment. And one of the convention dolls I brought home from Philadelphia wears a miniature version of a Charles James evening gown, which I found out later. And there are some very talented people out there who make Gene-sized replicas of Couture outfits of the day, that look just stunning. Gene is the ultimate vintage-style doll, no question :)!
