Dorothy O\'Hara -- help! UPDATED new pics

<i>Pics should take approx 24 seconds or less on a 56.6k or faster. </i>
Funny how these things work out... Angie (*Capricornvintage*) finds her Dorothy O'Hara (I'm still waiting for pics of HER wearing it!) just as I get mine back from the cleaners and re-take pics on the new manni.

I think we're pretty clear on the 40's date. The color is somewhere between a soft red and melon. It's NOT a blue blood red, that's for sure. Angie described her's as being like the inside of a ripe tomato. I think they might be the same fabric-- but Angie takes better pics! LOL!
Some of you may recall that this had been taken up... well I had that hem brought back down.
But.. there's still a very faint shadow mark on the bust. One of those things that you can see if you're looking for it.. but, especially in an evening environment, would likely go unnoticed by most. AND -- a new mark I hadn't notice before, hidden in the fold of the inverted pleat.

Is it still worth it?? I'm wondering if someone else's cleaner could do a better job on that one on the bust? It looks for all the world like a faint grease mark.

Thoughts appreciated... I'm not sure what to do with this. I was planning on putting it in my ebay store until Jan... but with the flaws, I'm not sure what it's worth, if anything?

Oh, wow, I just <i>love</i> that dress. I'm not really seeing the mark on the bust...I know this is something I would wear in a heartbeat, because IMO the flaws are minor and not very noticeable.

I'm no help with value, though. I'm sure someone else will be able to give you insight into that.

Laura

The only mark i can really see is the inverted pleat, but that's inside the pleat so doesn't matter so much.

I think i am biased because i like orange.

That mark can be hard to see... but lemme see if I have a pic that shows it worse than it is. I'd rather the buyer be pleasantly surprised than unpleasantly so!

<a href="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/dorothy94.jpg">
<img border="2" src="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/dorothy94_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/dorothy94.jpg" width="300" height="400"></a><p>

How's that? Can you see it? It's a small area that's just a little darker than the surrounding fabric. I had a really hard time trying to get it to show up in pictures.. but it's there! Too bad this isn't the sort of dress you could wear a brooch with...

well i would bid! i can only see the one mark too, and am sure it wouldn't be that offputting as hidden.
i'm never sure. i have a hard time pricing stuff that's even a little flawed and tend to wimp out and just let the bidders decide at auction.. think you would do fine there as what flaws there are are barely noticeable, if at all.

Okay i see it...but i had to soft focus it like i was looking at one of those magic eye pictures...so i wouldn't say it is strikingly noticeable. If it is more prominent than the pics are showing i would scan it with a coin next to it for scale. If not, i would just use the pic and let people determine for themselves

I'm retaking pics (yet again!) on a black background... so that hopefully the color shows up more accurately.
And I hadn't thought to try and scan the shadow mark... I'll give that a shot! Thanks, Chris!

Sometimes i find scanning makes it look worse than it is...but if you want people happily surprised..that could be the ticket!

Good luck!

This dress is awesome, even with a few little problems. I'd put it in my store at the price you wanted for it before you found the stains, minus the cost of another dry cleaning.

I can see them, but realistically speaking, this dress is not going to be worn in the broad daylight, nor will it be worn in bright light. If I were in the market for this style dress, the problems just would not stop me from buying it.

Lizzie

I don't know why I didn't take those pics on a black background... must be the cold I have. Ugh.

How does the color look, now? Less orange, hopefully?

<a href="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/do11.jpg">
<img border="2" src="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/do11_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/do11.jpg" width="164" height="400"></a><a href="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/do44.jpg"><img border="2" src="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/do44_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/do44.jpg" width="400" height="375"></a><p align="center">

And... I tried to scan the faint mark on the bust. It IS really faint.. but it's definately there.. so I want to accurately portray it.<a href="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/doscan.jpg">

<img border="2" src="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/doscan_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.elsewherevintage.com/images/doscan.jpg" width="400" height="290"></a>

The color is fabulous shot on that black background! Red's my fave color, anyway! And I would not let those marks keep me from bidding on it either! I don't think these, esp. the one in the fold, would keep someone who really loved it from bidding on it! As everyone seems to agree--in the light in which this'll probably be worn, it should not be noticeable!

Thanks for the thoughts, Anne!

I appreciate everyone chiming in... I think I'm going to put this in my ebay store until late Jan or so... and then if it hasn't sold I'll let it rip in auction.

THANKS!:clapping:

less orange...but i would make sure to still clarify color in the listing. I am either colorblind and am still seeing a hint of orange or my monitor is whacky

it definately leans into orange red more than blue red... so that's ok. I described it as:

<i> First -- this dress is NOT orange! It's a hard color to photograph. Neither is it a deep blue blood red.. it's more of a cross between deep coral and red. Or, as seller *CapricornVintage* described the color "like the inside of a ripe tomato"</i>

Of course... I may still sell it and have someone say "hey! This isn't red!" LOL!
