Double label - Dior/Jaeger

Hi all,

I've come across a garment which I'm confused about and hope you can help. It's a short jacket which has a 1963 Dior label sewn in, above a handwritten label reading 'Schloss Jaeger'. Would this have been some sort of sample...? Or a design Jaeger might have purchased from Dior?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I should have included some pics first time round! Here they are. Do you think it might be a piece that has been bought in by Jaeger as 'inspiration'. The handwritten looks contemporary to the jacket which is what's confusing me.

It might not be the Jaeger that you are thinking of. Despite it's Germanic-sounding name, Jaeger is an English fashion brand, so there is no Jaeger castle or house of Jaeger associated. The direct translation of 'Schloss Jaeger' ('Jaeger castle') is probably some place in Germany or thereabouts. Are you sure it isn't an old dry cleaning ticket for room T10?

Ooh interesting, I hadn't thought of that! I wasn't sure if 'Schloss Jaeger' could be translated as something like 'House of Jaeger', but even that wouldn't make sense being in German...!

I've just noticed, the handwritten label is sewn onto the 'made in France' label.

Maybe Jaeger hit upon hard times (well they did sell out to Edinburgh Woollen Mill!) and they had to make their labels with a ball point pen?! lol

It looks like it says 'Veste Bobby', so French- jacket, and maybe bobby is a term for the fabric...?

Great piece! It's worth noting that this jacket was actually quite well documented from Dior's Autumn/Winter 1963 collection, and was even made into a Vogue Paris Original pattern (number 1295) The design for the suit was called 'Bobby', hence why the name "veste Bobby" (Bobby jacket) is on the handwritten tape.
I'll attach some photos below!

Sorry to jump back on this old thread, but I think I figured out the label. Kerry Taylor recently posted on instagram an Dior dress with a similar label, this time with 'Wanamaker' instead of Schloss Jaeger. They said Wanamaker was the client, so I'm assuming whoever or whatever Schloss Jaeger is the client too.

I have a few couture pieces with extra tags in them similar to this, and one of them I know was a shop in New York, so I assume the tags refer to the shops they were sold through. Wanamaker's was also a store, as was Jaeger, s0 perhaps that explains it.

Thanks Jonathan. I wondered if the Jaeger was unrelated to the chain of fashion shops, as it wasn't a department store in the same way that I guess Wanamaker's was...?
