Dress Construction question 1950s gown

I have this really adorable 50s gown and it has something similar to hip inserts I am not sure what they are called thats why I wanted to post a question here

What are they called or maybe a good description for them?

Thank you! That helps alot. Some late 40s princess gowns were influenced by Victorian attributes so i wonder if this dress is 49 or possibly early 50s

I had a late 1940s wedding gown at some point that had smaller ones like this inserted into the hips.

The shape is also Dior New Look influenced I think - widening the hips to emphasise the small waist.
