I was just given this beautiful black silk dress today and I have no idea about it's history or time period. Any ideas? It is too small for my model so it is unbuttoned in the front a bit! :)

Looks like fairly standard issue...how's the condition? silk splits?
Hopefully our Old Stuff experts will come by. I'm lost after the 20s :BAGUSE:

It's simple enough that it could be 1910 - 1918. Pretty weave on the fabric.

This type of dress from this era needs presentation to make it stand out. A good steam, a petticoat to give the skirt some shape and a pretty sash with a necklace. That sort of thing.

Because of the length of skirt with the highish waist and blouson top, I would say c. 1915ish. After 1915 I would expect a shorter and fuller skirt and before 1915 I wouldn't expect to see the blousing on the top quite so much

Thank you

Thank you all for your help! I agree that getting this dress to photograph well will be a challenge, especially since it does not fit my model! It is in excellent condition, and very pretty. Thank you all again!
