Dress of the Year...and the winner is...

The Fashion Museum in Bath announced its Dress of the Year a while back, but I managed to miss it until this week. Please excuse me if someone posted this way back in Feb!

For anyone else who missed it, the dress chosen for 2009 is here

They've done this every year since 1963. I don't much like this year's choice but it's an improvement on the 2008 Kate Moss love-in I suppose.

I went to check the Dress for my year of birth, expecting disappointment (although I've been told I can't remember what the No 1 record was, or the headline in The Times, etc - never anything worth remembering!). But Dress of the Year 1970 was a Bill Gibb classic. Even better, it's accompanied by shoes from the Chelsea Cobbler which was started by my friend Mandy. Not quite taken the sting out of turning 40, but somewhat cheering!

Uh..... how does one politely say YUCK!

You know Mandy? I have a pair of boots made by them before they officially called themselves the Chelsea Cobbler. I should send you a pic for you to show it to her...

Double yuck.

The Bill Gibb outfit is divine for 1970's choice! Love the Mary Quant of 1963 and the Marc Bohan of 1973. It's interesting that as bad as fashions could be in the 70s, they could also be spectacular....

I'm so old they started after my decade. LOL!

But, I got a huge grin when I saw the '63 Mary Quant. I was so enthralled by her styles.
