Dress with extra long halter strap-am I missing something?!

Hello all! I was photographing this dress and when I put it on the form, I realized that the halter neck is quite long (it does not tie at the neck). I'm wondering if there is a way to wear this that I'm missing? It is not a homemade dress so it isn't a sewing flaw. Thought I would consult the experts before I shortened the strap myself!

Where does the halter attach to the dress at? If it is under the arm area, when it is on an actual body it may not fit as loosely as on your dress form. Do you know someone would could try it on to see if that would make a difference?

It does attach nearly under the arms, about an inch closer to the bust. I tried it on myself and the strap is still super long. I can't imagine how else to wear it!

Is it possible that the long connection is to hold the dress on a hanger?

I think Maxine may be on to something, that *strap* looks kind of thin to be a halter strap.

It could be, but there are also those hanger straps on either side to help hold it up while hanging. It's a mystery!

Can you show it from the back and where it is attached at each place please?

Until I see the above I only thought it might cross in front and go around the neck.

I'm not sure that you're displaying it the right way - is that a loose piece under the bust or part of the bodice? If it's loose, I would expect that to be a halterneck, to go around the neck and the thin strap to go under it. I think if you get someone to try it on and see how it sits.

If you can photograph where the straps attach to the body, you can often tell which direction they're supposed to go in, which can help.

I am wondering if the strap actually goes under the armpit, as in it would be worn the arms coming through the strap at the front- if that make sense?? Wish I could draw a pic here of what I mean....
This wouldn't be great for laundering though.... but just a thought!

Here is a photo of where the strap attaches, kind of hard to get a good shot but its almost right at the side seam on either side. The loose fabric under the bust is not a strap, it's just a fabric drape on the bust, I haven't steamed it out yet so it looks a little disheveled!

I think you might be right Gayle, that it goes under the armpits and then back behind the neck. I tried it on this way and it is still about 3 inches loose on me but I don't fill the dress out completely so maybe when it fits properly it would work!
