Dubarry Resources

I recently acquired a Dubarry gown. I am familiar with Dubarry patterns, as I am an avid collector of vintage patterns, but I have never seen, let alone handled an actual gown. I was excited to come upon this find to say the least!
I would love to find out more about Dubarry's line of dresses but I couldn't find much here or anywhere else I have looked, any suggestions?
When I have more time I will post pictures of the dress. It has some incredible, applique like scales/scallops.

Thanks in advance!

If you go to the VFG Main Site you can look up labels - the Dubarry one is there. Also I see that there is a AFLCIO tag. There is information about tags on the Vintage Forum on E-bay which is also a great help

Yes, I have looked at the labels. I am looking more for information on their dress lines and designers as a whole. I am fascinated by the company and their designs. patterns and clothing. They have a very unique style.

This is kind of a tough one. I wasn't able to find much - not even a trademark filing, despite the trademark clearly noted on the tag. But I have a feeling that the pattern company and the dressmaker are different. They operated at different times, are listed with slightly different spellings in the New York directory, the logos are not the same, and Du Barry is kind of a common name associated with ladies' fashion (there is also a glove manufacturer and a large beauty supply line that operated during the same time).

The earliest reference I could find to Du Barry gowns was a 1931 Yonkers newspaper ad, but I'm not sure that this is the same company, though it's totally possible. I was only able to find one newspaper ad, from 1946, that showed an illustration of a gown for a retail price of $25, about $300 today. So, the fact that these were sort of "budget" gowns makes me think that not a great deal of information about their designers or company will be easy to find (three hundred dollars might sound like a lot, but many fine department stores at the time sold "better" rayon crepe evening dresses in the range of $40 and up).

I know that's not terribly helpful or exactly what you were looking for, but it's the best I could do!

Well it was more than I was able to find, thank you! I am hoping to get some decent pictures of the dress soon. It really is a beautiful gown with some interesting techniques used in its constructions. Because the fabric is quite faded across the shoulders it isn't really salable for wear so I think I am going to give it a go at reproducing it.

Here is a Dubarry gown I have acquired recently.

I am away from home for a few more days and it is a bit more difficult for me to search or post links on my iPad, but here is a link to a lawsuit that lists many DuBarry companies and what they manufactured. I have only skimmed it as I had time, but it eliminated some possibilities I was researching (such as DuBarry of Hollywood) and it may give you some clues...
