Ducharne Fabric

I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of ducharne fabric? The only information I can find on the internet is adverts for the fabric mostly dating from the 30s-50s.

I have a dress made from ducharne fabric and I am trying to figure out if this was something easily purchased and made by a typical housewife. Or if this type of material was more specialised and rare. I have seen no dresses for sale with this fabric, only pieces from museums.

Any info on ducharne would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks. :)

I don't have any information on ducharne, but the fact that you've only been able to find articles in museums suggest it's a luxury fabric, not used by housewives - but then you're also depending on a seller to accurately identify a fabric type and considering the rarity of this one, that will be a hard call.

I assume it was a luxury French fabric as I have seen illustrations in L'Officiel showing a Dior dress in Ducharne taffeta in the late 40s.

My dress is just a day dress in what feels like silk crepe (?). But it does have the traditional ducharne floral pattern. It has a nylon zip up the side and not metal. No labels whatsoever. I only know it's ducharne as it is written within the material that is on the matching belt.

I have just never encountered a dress where it is the fabric and not the maker which makes it special! :)
