Dumbest questions ever, I\'m afraid....

Getting paranoid over eBay's new policy on vintage (though I'm happy for it), and simply can't date these with any degree of confidence. Neither worth a whole lot of $$, but I don't want to have them pulled, either!

First, these Brooks Brothers shoes. Bought them for myself, but they're too small. Actually, I didn't even know Brooks made ladies' shoes (duh!) till I saw these. Thought they were early 70's, and they don't look like any Brooks' shoes I've seen since I started researching them. They are USA made with tricot linings and leather sole. I DO have a hard time dating shoes, anyway!

Next, this coat; thought mid 70s, as I had one almost exactly like it a while ago that definitely was. It's really made to wear with the collar up, Nehru style, but that can be flipped down to form lapels. And the wide attached belt looks of that era, also the length. I actually bought this 'cuz I love the buttons on it! Weird, huh? Thanks!

The shoes are classic in style. I remember Brooks Brothers making shoes because there used to be a store at the local mall in my hometown. I would say the shoes are 70s/80s if I had to guess. However, that is just an "off the top of my head" response. They just remind me of shoes I used to have.

The coat reminds me of something my aunt Leona owned. I would agree the coat is 70s.

Not much help, I'm afraid but I don't think your questions are dumb-good luck!

The shoes are classic and difficult to date. However, the tricot lining is typical of the late 1960s - early 1970s. They used tricot as a lining because it gave better air circulation around the foot and was often used in more conservative styles. Tricot tended to stain badly and tear though and they stopped using it by the late 1970s. So I would suggest the shoes are early 70s.

Thanks, Jonathan! So, my first impression was right.... I really have to learn to trust my intuition more!

Another thing about tricot that I've found, particularly in boots, is that the early tricot linings--60s in the things I've had--tended to partly disintegrate, and produce a powdery residue. I haven't seen that in the later ones, but maybe I just haven't had any that are quite as well worn....
