Dye and angora...

I am thinking they may not mix, but I have one of those dresses where I either need to do something drastic so I can wear it myself, or it gets cut up (gasp, I know) for projects.. and it is a gorgeous pale blue angora 60 sweater dress with BIIIIG splodges of sun fade on the front that have turned off white and are too big to disguise.

If I dye it a dark colour it would be less noticeable, I think, but I know that angora and cashmere are not the best for dyeing... Ideally I'd like to strip the colour first to even it up, and then redye but that would just be too harsh.

Anyone had any luck/advice? This really is last ditch and for my own personal use, so I am prepared to try!

(If this sounds familiar it is because i have probably asked before but got sidetracked). I'll try and post a picture later.

I dont think it would be a good idea. Unless you can find a die that works on fur????
Maybe that might work if there is such a thing?

I know, it really is last ditch. I have a feeling that the wool will felt up or disentegrate even on a cold water dye though.

I may go ask my dry cleaner but he will probably suck his breath in through is teeth slowly (he does that, like when you ask a builder for a best quote..) and tell me to throw it away...

I will take pictures and then see if anyone comes up with a plan!

I wouldn't normally even contemplate 'experimenting', but I feel sad about this dress! My friends mother gave it to me for 'a good home': she'd kept it as it was the last Christmas she spent with her Dad alive who had commented on how nice she looked (I well up thinking about her telling me), and now in her 70s she couldn't bear to throw it out. And neither can I, inevitably..

So that's interesting Lizzie - but not taken as a recommendation!
