Ebay or Etsy? Or both??

Hi everyone!

Like I've said on here, I'm very new at this. And I'm learning new things each day!

One of which is Etsy!

I've "set up shop" on Ebay and it's a love/hate relationship.

But, now I'm learning about Etsy and I'm quite intrigued. I really like how people on Etsy seem to have a passion in their selling (like myself).

I've been thinking about setting up an Etsy account and using both Ebay and Etsy for a time - and see which one suits me.

I'd love any feedback on Ebay and Etsy! Pros and cons, good and bad, etc.

Thanks!

hi there ... after years on ebay, l've put my accessories, jewellery and some other bits on Etsy..
A much nicer organisation, better ethos and atmosphere in my opinion. Friendlier...CHEAPER by miles, 20cemts to lista n item for 4 months yeah!! results...

l have 2 sales in first week and 4 in first month...which considering most selles are in USA at present isnt bad at all..

l shall heart you ...tell us your seller id

Hi!

I would definitely open a shop on Etsy too! I sold for
years on Ebay but became disenchanted over the past year.

I opened a shop on Etsy and started selling the end of May.
My views and sales have been great and I love the
community of Etsy. It is very similar in feeling to the
"good ole days" of ebay.

Participate in forums on both sites to get a feel for both. I think your idea of having a shop in both places is good -
give both a whirl and then you can decide what works best for you.

Its only against the rules if you have info about your eBay selling ID or link on etsy. If you dont mention it its not an issue.

I'd give it a whirl on both, with Etsy preferred at this time. I've been using ebay since '97 or '98 (I forget) and Etsy since '06. As Marty says, one or the other at any given time, and that includes your personal website as well. I'll be happy to help if you have Etsy questions; I've really been into it for the past few years, and it's pretty fun!

Here's that Etsy rule, under the Do's & Don'ts:
You may not post links/URLs to other venues where you have the same items for sale that are listed in your Etsy shop. This may include your personal website if there are items for sale.

Marty, Ang, & Julie,

Thank you all so much for the tips! I really appreciate it! I'm excited to open an Etsy account. I think it has such chic boutique atmosphere! :sunshine:

I'm exclusively selling on Etsy now. I've tried listing items over and over on ebay and most never sell. REally great stuff too! Just the other day I sold 3 items, for my desired price, on Etsy that didn't get ONE bid on ebay. And I get many many more views on Etsy too.

Sparrow, your mom doesn't live in Alabama does she? I have a vintage pal in bama and her daughter(Sparrow) moved to Texas a bit ago... Just hoping it was you!

Elvenom, Thanks for the help. I'm eager to start selling on Etsy. But, I went to register and FOUR days before I did, someone registered my name! Ugh! So, I'm stuck at the moment. I don't want to change my name, but I'm just not sure what to do.

KK, no sorry I'm not your long lost friend. =) Hope you find her!

I have been on ebay for 11 years I think and am very excited about Etsy. I just opened up shop there this week so can't say much about sales, I haven't really stocked it yet.

What I can say is besides the cost making me happy the whole feel of the site makes me happy.......and talk about ease of listing......it just doesn't compare, they really have made it user friendly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven't sold anything on Etsy, but I don't list much there, either. My only problem is working around the picture size. I have to crop them differently, I suppose.

Hi

I have had an ebay store now for around 18 months and love the flexability of it but the costs are high, I think I might also open an Etsy account.

Do many sellers use the speacilist auctions?
