Hello! Thanks in advance. I have this dress... Edwardian but with longer train in back. Does that make it 1905-1910? And it has a label in the waist band; anyone have experience with this company or dress shop? Thanks!

Hi,

That is very pretty. I am not able to determine the dating from the photos, but I wanted to add that the name stamped on the belting may not be the name of the maker or shop which sold it. It may be the name of the belting itself. Dress parts and dressmaking supplies were sold through ladies magazines and catalogs, and would often have pretty sounding names. Just a guess of course. Your lovely dress may have been made by a home seamstress. Can you show or describe the closures and where they are located, etc? Can you show the train in back with the hem touching the ground?

Oh.... a dress part. Interesting. I hadn't thought of that.

The closures are button, covered when buttons. That's on the blouse. The skirt is just tied at back of waist.

I've added a pic that might show more of what I mean by a train. I had to pin it substantially so it was the best I can do. hope it helps! : )

Yes. Marquise. I can identify that. I originally wondered if it was the name of a store that someone was aware of for this period.

It looks 1901-02ish to me - hard to be sure without a full view of the sleeve, which appears to be a bishop sleeve, which would secure it as 1901-02. There would have been a high collar, not necessarily matching, and a belt, again not necessarily matching, but it would have been worn with it.

A bishop sleeve is fuller at the bottom than the top, isn't it? This is fuller at the top, tapering at the cuff which also has that pin-tucking detail. It's not hugely fuller though. Nice to see you again, Jonathan!

Why thank you, Barbara! I had to pin it carefully and my guy photograph fast before it disengaged. lol
