I promise to post a picture of the garment, and label eventually but has anyone heard of Effie Louise or Leouise of Lincoln Road Miami Beach ? The label is in fancy script, and hard to read. It could read Looise, or Le ouise. It's a neat old jacket with super cool sleeves. Just wondering if any of you have heard of her label ? The fabric is a horizontal fine ribbed ? rayon ?

Without seeing it, I'm thinking this was probably a local professional dressmaker who had her own labels that she sewed into her garments. It would help to see the label, though, and the garment.

looks like a small miami manufacturer, seeing the label.

i think you're spot on about the date. definitely post-war and either late 40s or earlier 50s. the fabric looks like faille.

very cute. love the full sleeves.

Thank you Joan. I got it at a local thrift shop for a dollar. I thought those days were over, but every now and then, I luck out, and try not to show my emotions, in case they change their minds, and decide to keep it. I guess the moths do not like faille. It's in good shape, except for the rumpled collar. It almost reminds me of some of the civil war /Victorian sleeve styles on jackets.

Good work Lynne: her whole life is listed in your lines!

I would date the jacket as early '50s. Is it the original hem or has it been shortened? Agree with faille, probably rayon so not as popular with moths than wool.

wowser

I just got in from thrift shopping, and checked my thread. Thank you Lynne ! I am very happy to know all of the details. The hem is original length, Nicole. Effie certainly knew her stuff. I really appreciate each little or big bit of help from our members. At 64, I feel a renewed interest in old clothing. I have always loved old clothing, but I can see it from many new vantage points now that I can't wear certain things any more (smile, frown).
