Hello! Here’s the second embroidered blouse that I’ve picked up recently, this is the one that’s probably the least vintage? This one is collared, with smocking on the shoulders and waist. The cap sleeves seem a bit unusual for a peasant blouse. It has small French seams and a rolled hem. The material is a fine, sheer cotton. It’s got Hungarian embroidery only on each side of the chest. The smocking is quite tight and effectively springy, it’s very neatly done. There’s three press snaps at the side of the bottom band. Loops are placed underneath the collar for a matching tie.
One neat thing is that it has a tag attached from a costume collection, L’Atelier de Costumes B.J.L. So it might have been used as a costume piece in Quebec between 1976 and 1994.
I’m not sure if being part of that costume collection means it was produced as a costume during that time or was collected from potentially earlier to be available? Being the later project of a costume designer and the “atelier”, I’m assuming that it was made sometime during her career. I might be answering my own questions with this one, lol, but I’d welcome thoughts and wanted to share the costume tag!
