hi,
i have this adorable dress from the 1970's. It's a soft soft soft cotton or cotton blend in a gorgeous latte-caramel color. The square sailor-inspired collar has some floral embroidery and an unusual type of embroidery treatment detail.

Can anyone help me with the term used for this cut-out embroidery treatment ?

The cutout part is called faggotting, I believe.

Yep, looks like faggotting to me, too, now that I see it up closer. There are several techniques that make "openwork" areas in fabric, so sometimes you have to see it in more detail.

When this dress was manufactured, the collars were sent out for this treatment, in bulk.
