See pic of a black evening gown from Emcar made in England. I cannot locate any label information for this particular line or type of dress from Emcar. I believe 60's or 70's. Can anyone help.

Hi Susan, it will help if you can show the dress being worn (or on a mannequin) so we can see the shape but I think it's more likely to be late '70s or perhaps early '80s. Any shoulder pads? That will put it into the '80s but simple styles like this were worn around the turn of the decade and the label look more modern than '60s.

I don't recognise it and I didn't find a trademark for the name. However the fabric and label look 90's to me.

OK thanks everyone. A trusted vintage store I shop at is where I got it and marked it vintage which to them is 80's or earlier so I would be surprised to know that it would be not earlier....I am unable to show on a mannequin at this time. I am baffled now. I appreciate so much your feedback and input. I will research with my contact as well and to be safe.....may wait to list. It looks older than 80's in person - hard to tell detail in pic I think..thanks again.

My apologies but I am out of the country for 1 month and unable to send any additional photos other than what I have. I believe if memory serves me there is no additional labeling - only the EMCAR label. Thanks again for helping.

Hi, I worked for Emcar from 1973 until it closed down in about '83, starting as sales assistant and house model. It was the fashion division of a livery manufacturer called Milns, Cartwright and Reynolds. I can't recognise the dress from the photo, but I'm not surprised it has survived; everything was very well made at our own factory in Norfolk! (UK)
