Emma Thompson's vintage dress and flat shoes at the SAGAwards.

There's a lot of hubub in the papers today over this - her beaded motif dress caught my eye amongst the red carpet comparison photos first, then the discussion on her choice of footwear later. I adore the dress, though I agree the draping around the knees looks a bit odd, It almost looks as though it was tacked up there, but I think it's original, though for this outfit I would have liked it to hang straight down in more of a cheongsam style. Good on her for wearing stylish but sensible footwear. She was also caught photobombing other stars repeatedly :D I love the way she takes some of the stuffiness out of these events.

She is the celebrity that I would most like to meet, hang out and have a drink with--hands down! I've loved her since the late 1980s--Hooray for Emma! I am a bit of dork about her, I know... :)

She can wear whatever she wants. She is one who definitely makes the outfit rather than the outfit making her. :)

I loved the dress, and noticed it right away, thinking it looked like vintage 1940s. The hem treatment reminded me a bit of Balinese clothing, and so the sandals looked good with it after all.

I LOVE EMMA and have since I first saw her back in the 80s.

Amy, that is funny, I was thinking the same thing...to hang out and hoist a few with Emma would be a blast!

I just adore everything about her.

Gosh, she looks so beautiful. Meryl looked great. Trust the old hands to inject a bit of class back into these events!

Oh wow thanks Marie! It's alright to post items for discussion, or that are sold, rather than promoting a non vfg seller. Here's the original listing so you can see the wonderful details:

I do love that dress. It was only attributed to Ceil though, it had no label. Great to know british celebs (or their stylists!) are shopping on Etsy.

I have seen this dress elsewhere with a Ceil label. I will try to hunt it down.

Edited to say:
Yay, I remembered where I saw it. It was at Dorthea's Closet. A VFG member, right? I came across it twice when I was researching a Ceil I had. Plus, I always check her site because I love love her selection of 40's dresses.
