Era of this Beaded Wool Crop Sweater ?

i came across this gorgeous gold beaded and piped wool lined sweater.

i'm not sure what era this is from ?

any help would be appreciated.

yes, it is lined. in very very good condition and has hidden front hook-and-eyes.

The '50s ones tend to be shorter, sitting on the waist rather than the hips - I agree with '60s but I think they also made this for some time. The presence of the phone number makes me wonder if it's more modern (but don't worry, I'm sticking with '60s too).

The label reads Made in Hong Kong. Hong Kong was a British Crown Colony until 1997 and a lot of beaded knitwear apparently for export prior to that date had labels with 'British Crown Colony.' It can be a little tricky to date some of these beaded knitwear pieces because other manufacturing products did have the Made in Hong Kong label before 1997.

The label if it is original has been re-positioned on this cardigan. Can you show the closures from the inside?
 
I got an 80s feel at first glance... but I see 60s as everyone else... but looking at the photos are there shoulder pads in this? But the "design" looks older but the armholes look rather large and overdone from the picture but it just may be bad angles... I owuld like to see it laid out if you don't mind

This is not entirely true. I have had a handful if items that don't have the British Crown Colony printed along with the Hong Kong. Items that are DEFINITELY not post 1997. Also, fully fashioned is a term that I see with alot on 50's and 60's labels too. Not to say that this is solely the case, but I have never seen that term used on anything contemporary.

This being said, I also thought that the shoulders looked full but thought that it was just due to the camera shot. Would be curious about that. The tag still doesn't look 80's to me though... will keep an eye on this thread for sure.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean Amber by 'this is not entirely true.' I'm just pointing out that knitwear labels with British Crown Colony can be a useful guide for dating. From what I understand, garments not for export did have 'Made in Hong Kong' labels prior to 1997. This could be one.

It is not entirely true that just because it doesn't say British Crown Colony that it is not from that era. I can better understand now that what you are saying is that the item may not have been for export. Sorry for the confusion :scratchchin:.

I still don't quite understand how this could be a useful dating tool though if both labels were used prior to Hong Kongs return to China in 1997. Can you expand a bit on this please? :)
 
the label was not repositioned. it's in the normal place. it's just that in the photo i intended to show the label, piping and beading.

Here's a shot of the hook-and-eyes.

no shoulder pads. that's just my mannequin's "swimmer's build"...i want a new mannequin so bad !

ok lol then I would stick with 60s... ank tell that broad shoulderd broad to lay off the protien shakes lol.... I am just kidding with you! It looked 60s to me too but the shoulers deffinatley had me hesitating!

...there ain't nothgin in the world, like a broad shoulder girl, make act so funny, make me spend my money..... lol
