Ert?'s Eye

Erté\'s Eye

Just thought I'd share these very colourful accessory illustrations taken from a 1960's magazine. They're by the famous Russian-born fashion illustrator, Erté, who had a career that spanned eight decades, starting with his first successful costume design at the age of five. :o

Erté's work was almost forgotten during the forties and fifties but he made a comeback during the sixties which is when the above illustrations were commissioned.

Erté's popularity soared again thanks to a meeting with London art dealer Eric Estorick in 1967. Impressed by the huge body of superb work in the artist's Paris studio, Estorick was determined to relaunch Erté's career. This effort was crowned with spectacular success in New York and London exhibitions of gouache paintings and drawings.

Please follow this link to find out more about Erté and his fabulous career -

Erté wasn't just an artist but an incredible draughtsman as can be seen from these earlier illustrations below.

Gorgeous Ertés, I'd never seen those accessories illustrations. Thank you for this Louise!

You're very welcome. :) The bright colours in the 60's magazine are so eye-catching.

I knew Ertés enjoyed a lengthy career, but I didn't realise he carried on working so long. Just think of the energy he must have had - quite something . . . . .

:wow22: That's incredible! I can really see how that illustration made you think of this Kimono. Thanks so much for posting a photo. It's wonderful. :)

Thank you very much ladies. :) Wow! Your figurine is divine Mary-Jane. I'm watching it and wish you the best of luck - not that you'll need it!
