EXQUISITE AMAZING Dress!! Help dating? 50\'s?

This was a very exciting find!! This dress is absolutely exquisite in person - it was really hard to show the beauty of it in the photos. From what I can tell, it looks like it's from the 50's but I definitely need an expert's opinion. There is no label, it has a metal zipper, 1.5" string belt loops, 5 inch hem, what feels like a wire in the bust, and a 3" back slit.

It is all sequins with iridescent shades of purple, blue, green. 26" waist, 34" bust and as you can see, it did not zip up completely on my mannequin.

I hope someone can help. I don't even really know how to describe this dress, so some help there would also be appreciated!

Thank you!

oh wow, that IS gorgeous! yes, it's 50s. that's tulle at the bust, if that helps you describe it, and the wire you're feeling in the bust is called boning.

Thank you so much for your help. Would this be considered a wiggle dress? I just want to make sure I describe it correctly.

Quite striking!

I would sure call this a wiggle dress! It also has a mermaid quality to it. The iridescent sequins have a fish scale look and the color also. The bust treatment appears to be sort of shell shaped? Like a scallop shell? More of the siren of the sea! And yes....It sure looks like tulle or (faux) horsehair braiding and is crystal pleated.

Quite amazing..and very hot! I know mermaid styles and themes seem still very popular.

Thank you so much Barbara. I really appreciate all of the information! I wouldn't have thought of any of that on my own. It's really such a beauty, I hate to take it off my mannequin. I'm enjoying just staring at it in my office. It's like a decoration... if only it fit me and I had a place to wear it to!
