Exquisite Jewelry - - Sotheby’s Auction
THIS AUCTION “Always in Style: 150 Years of Artistic Jewels” takes place April 20. I can’t tell you how many times my mouth fell open looking at the close-ups of these treasures. I am unable to post any photos here from the catalogue.
The brooches are my favorites. Oh la la. Zoom in on some of those treasures.
A bit out of my range, the lowest estimate is for an 18 karat ruby, gold and diamond brooch by Cartier shaped like a quiver filled with arrows and the bow, circa 1945 -estimate 2,000 - 3,000 USD
The highest estimate is for a platinum, emerald, bead and diamond necklace estimated at 150,000 - 200,000 USD.
There are a few purses in there and I just found an 18 karat gold, agate, sapphire and enamel “page turner” (it looks like a pretty tongue depressor) but at a low estimate of 7,500 USD, I’ll use my fingers.
There’s another jewelry auction the same day (session 2) called “Magnificent Jewels.” A quick look and this seems to be more bling and size matters, as compared to the wonderful art found in the first auction.
