Fabric Dating and Name Question

Hi all,

I have this vest that was my great-great grandmothers, or so that is family lore. I am trying to date the vest and also get the name of the fabric. Has anyone seen this fabric before? If so where? Also, what is this fabric called? What is the approximate date of the fabric?

Hello,

That is an interesting garment and a great fabric. It is hard to get an idea of what we are looking at. I am not seeing a vest, but a coat or jacket like garment. It looks tiny in the sleeve area, and looks like a baby's coat? Is this for an adult?

If you can show a close up photo of the fabric we may be able to give more information. The pattern looks Victorian. It could be silk, or cotton but you would have to do a burn test to determine the fiber. Looks like a cotton or silk, with a printed pattern (not a woven pattern).
