Having a difficult time placing this fabric. I thought shantung or dupioni silk im not spelling that correctly I know! Doesnt feel like silk.

What do any of you think it could be ?

Its from a 50s formal gown. Shiny light weight almost sheer

Are the shiny bits metallic?

It looks like a plissé, a treatment done to cause that (what looks like) puckering, in the second picture. However, the first picture looks a lot like a raw silk. The description of lightweight and sheer would work for a number of different fibers. Is there a way to do a burn test on just a tiny thread from the inside?

Yes i have extra fabric on the seam inside i can use what I am looking for in a burn test to see if its synthetic?

Wheni burn it curls away from flame smelling like burnt paper

It may be acetate shantung. Looking at the inseam, if you can see raveled threads are they all one color, or are some blue and some white?

In the ‘80s we called that ‘Thai silk’ which is a kind of raw, unprocessed silk that is thinner than Shantung or Dupioni.

They are all the same color threads
