Hello Everyone,
This coat has no labels.

1. Wondering if this is better described as an opera or a swing coat?
2. 1950s ?
3. What is this fabric....it's a cottony velvet almost honeycombed open fabric with a metallic gold thread running vertically through that glimmers out from underneath.
4. also, is there a name for that little 'faux' cross over partial decorative belt thing at the back?

Thanks for any help!
Lauren

Yes, I agree it is 1950's. Perhaps stress the luxurious velvet fabric brightened with festive metallic stitching. Something pointing out that it is out of the ordinary. The belt could be a diagonal decorative half-belt fastened with a decorative button?

Nice coat Lauren: I would call it an opera coat. Not swinging enough for a swing coat (an overused word, I think). Nice fabric, you can see it's good quality. Has it just got the one little button at the top near the collar? If it wasn't for that, I'd call it a clutch coat.

As to the belt, I just call them half belts. Yours is a nice, fancy example of one.

Agree with '50s. I bet it looks nice on.
