Fabulous Plaid Dress, am I 1930's? STRANGE OLD LABEL

Fabulous Plaid Dress, am I 1930\'s? STRANGE OLD LABEL

This one is a stumper, for me that is and I can only take a guess...

Am I 30's??? It is NEW OLD Stock, never been worn and crisp as the day it was made...AND A WEARABLE SIZE...42 bust~32 waist

It has no bust darts and this is why I am thinking 30's...

It buttons up front with three white glass buttons, has short cap sleeves, a fitted waist with a sash that is sewn into the seam on the right side but I am unsure if it just ties to the left side or is just missing the hooks and eyes or snaps that would have secured it.
Hmmm looking at it closely its not actually sewn into the actual seam itself but is sewn onto the side with its own stitches.
The bottom of the skirt is flared...Pinked seams and the hem was folded over 3 inches with the raw edge tucked under and machine stitched.

Please help me with this fabulous dress! Also going to post this question on the VC&A ...TIA ~Tori<P>

That sleeve style (cap sleeves?) and the plain round neckline always say 1940's to me. Maybe it was a cusper?
Connie

Tori, I was thinking late 30s, but like you, I am confused by some of the
40s dresses. I had what I thought was late 40s and it turned out it
was late 30s.

I agree with Connie on the sleeves and neckline though.

Sue

Sue, I am just plain confused, they are saying it looks 50's on the VC&A, I just don't see 50's in this dress. The length is all wrong for one, what am I missing?
Maybe someone else will come along and give an opinion.:puzzled:

Someone posted an odd label like that one years ago. Interesting!

Tori, this dress is late 40s. I see that overhanging shoulder all the time on patterns dated 47 and 48 or so. It's too long to be wartime. Of course it could be later, but the styling is late 40s.

Lizzie

Thanks so much Lizzie and everyone else!

I will go with late 40's. I think it's a cool dress and but will probably remove the stitches from that sash attached to the side and add some hook and eyes to it.
