Fading on Black Mardi Gras Dress

I recently acquired two dresses made by Mardi Gras that I believe are from the mid-60's (but feel free to through your thoughts about that in).

Dress #1 is a pink brocade (I think that's the correct term) that I'm still trying to research, but might be asking about later here.

Dress #2 I wanted to ask about before I put any more work into. The main issue with it is that it's faded into a dark maroonish color. The fading is pretty much all over, but worse on the back of the garment. I'm not sure if "fading" would be the correct word, as much as "discoloration" since even the parts of the dress that wouldn't regularly be exposed to sunlight show some discoloration. I had it dry cleaned hoping that is was just dust or dirt, but no such luck. There's a fairly large seam split up the back under-tier layer that I would need to get repaired but I wanted some opinions on whether or not this dress should be bothered with. It's much to small for me to wear, so I was intending to sell it. Is it worth attempting to dye (if even possible)? Or should I just get the seam stitched up and sell as is? I have only the vaguest guesses as to what the material is, though it is lined in a different material that has not faded. I think it's a really great dress, and would hate to see it go into a rag bag!

The photos actually show the fading a little lighter than it actually is. It's not quite as glaring in person.

Sorry about the large picture size. I thought I had them re-sized smaller, but apparently not. I'll try and get that fixed.

I think your dress is '50s, and made of rayon - the old rayon dyes are unstable and often change colour by the time they're this old, with purples often turning blue and vice versa. Dyeing it won't remove the unevenness - my recommendation would be to repair the ripped seam and sell as is. It's likely to get worse as time goes on. Hopefully you will find a new home with someone who doesn't mind: certainly it wouldn't bother me but the unevenness should be reflected in the price.
