Fair Trade

There's a vintage store about a block from mine that specializes in average hawaiian shirts, costumes, burning man, etc, with lots of modern & reproduction thrown in if it's funky. They rarely have anything before 1965, so I'm not a big shopper there. The owner is very nice, and we do shop each others' stores and sometimes trade. She does have the advantage of having been around longer than my store, and she's known for "vintage" while most locals think of my store as contemporary because that's all I used to have. The vintage I have is higher end, so the folks who think of vintage as cheap/costume don't find things in my store and that's fine by me, I send them down the street. But people bring her more vintage to buy/trade.
Last September I took over a big box of things that either hadn't sold for me or were just too "meh" or too costume-y for the flavor of my store. They were mostly things that cost me little to nothing and were thrown in as extras when I was buying out estates. She took about 1/2 of them, and gave me a nice store credit of $90.
Yesterday I finally found a few things.

And the best - Pucci/Formfit set:

I was looking for med/lg dresses because a) I want to find some that fit me and b) if they don't fit, my store desperately needs mid-price m/l dresses. These are medium-ish, 30 & 28" waists, the pucci set is a large/16.
I love trades!!!

The funny/embarrassing thing is that I talk to myself when I shop. Yes, I'm the crazy lady who mumbles to herself and talks to clothing, and you all avoid me when shopping. Works for me. So I was arguing (with me) over whether the dresses were worthy, and when I came across the Pucci set and said quite loudly "Ooooooh, Mama likey!" The owner's husband was running the counter and was giggling to himself and trying not to look me in the eye. Mama ridiculous.

No, Moon Zoom is downtown on Pacific Ave, and also a good place to shop as it's huge, disorganized and sometimes older things are under priced. I've done trades with her before too. The store near me is called All Shook Up, we're on 41st Avenue, just above Capitola Village in the Pleasure Point neighborhood. Come on over!
