I recall recently reading that Givenchy was expecting Katharine to show up when told he would be working with Miss Hepburn, but it was Audrey and they went on to develop a friendship and working relationship from there.

If I recall correctly the Hepburn/Givenchy association began with the movie Sabrina. Although Edith Head won an Oscar for best costumes for that movie, it was actually Givenchy who created the dresses worn by Audrey Hepburn.
