Fashion Rocks

Has anyone else gotten the "Fashion Rocks" magazine?
I got mine with Glamour and a friend got his with a men's magazine.
I really like the fashions but my favorite thing was the PRICE$
I took mine for Happy Hour cocktails with a friend and we laughed and laughed. They have these awesome themed spreads "Goth" "Punk" "Rave" etc. and the best is flipping to the shopping guides in the back and seeing that some of the outfits on the goths or punks would set you back over $30,000!
I know, I know, who would put thrift or flea market clothes in a Fashion mag that is basically paid for by designers through their ads.
But all the punks, club kids, etc. way back when were the pioneers of vintage looks!
There is also a several page spread on Janis Joplin inspired hippie style, filled with svereal thousand dollar designer furs and $750.00 T-shirts....
I LOVE the looks but....WOW....

When I was a young punk goth raver.. whatever.. we made it ourselves from thrift store junk, as I know folks do now. Just think.. ripping off the kids styles and selling them back to them for outrageous prices.

I'm so proud of the DIY and Vintage fashion movements!

YES, it was handed to me at the store today....did you note the media tie-in with an upcoming rock concert coincidentally featured all the stars mentioned in the mag? CBS I believe.

Janis was dressed by hippie 'couturiers' in the Haight, many her friends/lovers....and shopped stores like mine. We dressed, in Portland, everyone from the Charlatans, Quicksilver, the Cockettes...to --this week-- Elvis Costello.

Hippie stars ALL wore vintage, occasionally accessorized with something from Carnaby Street or the very expensive hippie boutiques. NOBODY, including Janis, looked remotely like the 'Janis inspired' Hippie section.

For a reference on hippies dressed TO THE 9s in vintage clothing, check out 'LIFE AND TIMES OF THE RED DOG SALOON on VHS or ROCKIN AT THE RED DOG, a edited and less interesting version on DVD.

PS we also dressed original goths and skinheads in vintage.
