feeling rather reptilian today - anyone know their snakes? #1

i don't usually dabble in reptile but i have these two clutch bags that i have been putting off dealing with forever - one that came in a job lot, and the other i think i actually bought on its own but who knows where. i have to admit i'm not really a fan of this one but can see the appeal i suppose.

ok. 1970s? i thought python but pattern is wrong for that - i've looked on a few reptile sites..

not 100% tip top, a few worn spots to the front edges. looks handsewn, leather lined etc. sorry i only have one pic at the mo.

i wondered if this sort of thing would have been brought back from holiday - reminds me of 70s tooled leather tourist bags inside?

:)

Are you sure its snake? Python is the most common snake skin to use because its the strongest for tanning and wear plus the pattern shows through the dyes.

Its kind of timeless in its styling. My inital thought was 1930s or 1940s...

thank you! i'm not sure of anything today jonathan to be frank.. inside there is a chunky metal zipper, i'll check the make and try and get a pic. don't know why i thought later, it just struck me as being newer internally (which of course would be the picture i haven't provided  )

This purse and your other one you just posted both look Cuban or South American to me. That crude stitching seems to be a hallmark of work from there, especially South America. Also the big zippers, probably in brass?

Outside of Python, Allligator and Croc, I can't identify lizards very well so I can't help in the id of the skin, but it looks like a cayman or one of those smaller lizards...
